Norway's national mandatory service, known as "verneplikt," is required of all men and women upon reaching the age of 19. Individuals serve for approximately 12 months, either in military roles (with basic and specialized training) or in alternative civilian service. Examples of civilian service roles include working in public institutions, healthcare, environmental protection, and other sectors that contribute to society.
